Artist Spotlight

Spotlight: Ocie Elliott

Ocie Elliot musical duo.

Ocie Elliott is the duo of Jon Middleton and Sierra Lundy from Victoria, B.C. Their story kicked off with a chance meeting at a café on Salt Spring Island, which led to a partnership both in music and life. Since then, they’ve been on a whirlwind journey—dropping their debut album We Fall In, touring all over Canada, the US, and Europe, and even having their song "Run To You" featured on Grey’s Anatomy. With soulful harmonies and acoustic sounds, they’ve built a growing fan base through intimate live videos recorded in cozy spots, bringing listeners along for the ride. Jump in and read our Q&A with them to get a closer look at their journey!

What initially inspired you to pursue a career in music?

The love of listening to and creating music.

Can you share a memorable moment from your musical journey that has had a significant impact on you?

The first time we toured Europe really affected us. Seeing the different level of respect that musicians received by audiences, staff and promoters was encouraging.

What influences have shaped your style of music?

Gillian Welch was the artist that we first connected over. The first song we ever sang together was her tune, ‘Look at Miss Ohio’. Also the Carter Family, John Prine and Simon and Garfunkel.

If you could teleport to any concert in history, which one would you attend and why?

Probably Bob Marley live at the Rainbow. Seeing that level of musicianship and to see such an incredible performer and songwriter in his prime would have been mind-blowing.

If you could collaborate with any artist, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

I think we would collaborate with The Carter Family. Even though their harmonies are already so beautifully filled out, to be able to sing with them would be so joyous. Sierra says Eminem haha.

What's the most memorable feedback or reaction you've received from a fan?

When we learn the distance that some people go to catch a show, and hearing heartfelt stories about immense emotional turmoil that our music has gotten people through.

What made you choose Plunge Audio IEMs for your performances?

Our sound techs, Sascha Enns and Chris Hibbins both recommended them, and once we switched we could see why. Our performance and enjoyment level was instantly enhanced.

What specific features do you look for when choosing IEMs for your performances?

Mostly clarity. Our harmonies are the most important part of our sound, and we need to be able to hear each others voices as clearly as possible.

What advice would you give to other musicians who are considering using IEMs for the first time?

I think the advice would be that they can definitely be a game changer. But at the same time, it’s not a magic fix, time and work does need to be put in to them to dial them in and feel comfortable with them. Once that is done though, they can make a huge difference.
