Spotlight: Tyler Braden

This month’s Artist Spotlight features Gold-certified Alabama-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist Tyler Braden. Known for his raw honesty and emotionally charged storytelling, Tyler has built a sound that feels lived-in and unapologetically real. We sat down with him to talk about his journey, in-ear monitors, and more.

What initially inspired you to pursue a career in music?

I’ve sang my whole life with my parents and then in rock bands and never saw it as a possible career until my twenties when I saw some people that I’d watched play at the same venues that I played make the move themselves. I needed to see it happen close to home.

Can you share a memorable moment from your musical journey that has had a significant impact on you?

I did a tour with a major artist that I had listened to off and on for most of my life and they came on stage while we were playing the opening set and surprised me with a speech to the crowd about how the crowd better be listening because I was going to do well. That belief from someone giving you a chance is huge for a young artist, so I try to do that for my openers from time to time.

What influences have shaped your style of music?

Watching entertainers from the foo fighters to Kenny Chesney that demand your attention, to the writing styles of matchbox twenty and Eric church, I’ve had a ton of influence from all over.

If you could create a soundtrack for any historical event, which one would it be and why?

Any event where a community finds a way to bond together around it. From 9/11 to the Texas city explosion. Those events tend to bring out the best in those affected by it and music tends to paint the best picture of togetherness.

If you could teleport to any concert in history, which one would you attend and why?

Pearl Jam and Nirvana before and after Kurt Cobain's death. Another example of music bringing people together after a tragedy.

If you could collaborate with any artist, living or deceased, who would it be and why?

Right now I’d say Jon Bellion. We don’t make similar music but he thinks so far outside the box that I’d like to be a small part of that.

What's the most memorable feedback or reaction you've received from a fan?

It is and will always be tattoos. That’s a crazy huge nod to the effects of your lyrics. Very cool.

How did your collaboration with Plunge Audio begin?

Plunge was there when I needed them quickly. No special appointments, no custom orders, just a great products right when I needed it.

What specific features do you look for when choosing IEMs for your performances?

Good fit. Creating a seal is so important for the health of your ears.

What advice would you give to other musicians who are considering using IEMs for the first time?

I’m not an audiophile by any means but I’d say let the drivers do their job. Like old school amps. They need volume to sound their best so finding a good happy medium between your pack and your board level can bring out the best in your ears.
